The meeting between Judith and Holofernes takes place in the Assyrian army camp tent belonging to the general. The element of surprise at seeing a beautifully dressed and bejeweled woman from the enemy side is clearly an intended component of her devious plan. The false story she tells Holofernes seems more convincing under such circumstances. He is captivated and beguiled. This mosaic is executed on two panels with each of the two characters occupying their own unshared space in the story.
