_______________
Canadian visual artist Lilian Broca is an internationally recognized, award-winning artist. During her lengthy career, Broca has depicted powerful mythical women, including Lilith, Esther, Judith, and Mary Magdalene as role models whose experiences are relevant to contemporary social and gender issues. This bold exhibition arrives at a moment of renewed attention to women’s rights, gender narratives and cultural reinterpretation, offering audiences a visually striking and intellectually provocative experience.

Labeled as demon, LILITH re-emerges as a figure of defiance and female power. Broca revisits one of mythology’s most controversial figures, and transforms Lilith from demon into a symbol of autonomy and resistance to oppression.

A blend of contemporary art with feminist art, the exhibition taps directly into current conversations around gender, power and narrative. As an important catalyst for discussions on contemporary art, ancient women, as well as on the enigmatic nature of the Lilith story, this series of works offers a timely cultural viewpoint, one that resonates strongly today.

Artist Talk & Slide Presentation, Tuesday May 26, 7:00pm.
